I had a bad intermidiate case on my 800 stringer. I have a 1980 260hp v8 chevy motor. I was able to get a great deal on a complete drive from a v6 motor. everything is swapped over and used the complete drive from the v6 but I think there might be a gear ratio difference with the new drive. can anyone give advise on getting it back to the old ratio by re-proping? and what would be a good size to start with?

You get the right drive series wise ?? If yes you may have to go up in pitch. So on the old drive you had say a 17 you may need a 19 or a 21. Take them all on the water with you, run to wot say 4200-4600 rpm do not go over 4600 on the 17 say if you got alot of throttle left throw on the 19 you get the idea. By the way i have changed out the prop on my stringer standing on the swim platform the stringer tilts higher, just don't drop the nut and washers. Or tie up to the dock backwards and do it standing on the dock, with the drive all the way up.

yes the drive is the same series. I never got to use the boat with the original drive on it cuz i bought it with the bad drive. Anyway i was looking at the prop yesterday and its got a 16x12 on it. Thats what came on the boat with the original drive. Someone must have just stuck that porp on there. That cant be right. my thought is that it should be around 17 pitch. I'll see if I can find a 17 and go from there. Thanks
