800 Stringer Gear Shift 'Power Assist'

My 800 lower case is now completely dismantled to check for damage and replace seals.
All seals/ gaskets which could have allowed leaks are available.
But before ordering them, the 'Hydraulic Power Assist Servo Shift' is causing concern.
Its outer cylinder case appears to me to be too tight in movement although there is no damage and the movement is smooth.
I dismantled it to see what muck there might have been in it - it was fairly clean but the O rings appeared a bit stretchy and I thought that could cause binding to the cylinder walls. There's only an oil pump to push it . . .
However, these O rings do not appear to be available. A replacement assembly cost is astronomical, especially as there appears to be nothing wrong with this.
How easy should the cylinder move and down? The O rings are fairly slim - should they be a tightish snap fit in the grooves?
