8.2 Merc build from Volvo - pully clearance issues

Coming along on my build up/conversion from Volvo 8.2 to a full Mercruiser carb engine. As we are installing the circulating water pump pulley, I’m having clearance issue where that pulley is hitting the harmonic balancer. All the parts going onto the 8.2 are either from my dead 7.4 or bought brand new, except the harmonic balancer. The balancer I’ve installed is from the Volvo.

The Volvo was set up with a serpentine belt, with the circulating pump mounted to the balancer.

Since I’m going the full Merc route, I pulled of my pump brackets, v-pulleys, and other mounting hardware from my Gen4 7.4 and thought everything would just transfer to the Gen6 8.2.

Is it possible the original Harmonic balancer from the Volvo is different than the Mercruiser 7.4? I still have my 7.4 handy and can get the old balancer. Is there a difference and can I just use
my other one?

what am I missing?

I would say that the Harmonic balancer from the 8.2 MUST stay with the 8.2

The method and results of balancing and the internal reciprocating assemblies are DIFFERENT 7.4 vs 8.2.

If you can re-use the 8.2 hardware that would/may be best.

always safe to not mix....

You've got two different parameters - balance method and size ....sounds like the latter is different and I'd start there....

Use the raw water pump off the Volvo or do you have a raw water /fuel pump(S) combo on the merc?
