79 mercury 402

i got a mercury 402 1979 and the mounts for the starter snapped but its part of the hole block that the starter mounts to anyone got any ideas on how to fix without having to remove the flywheel and whole front of engine

Fairly common problem.--An individual / shop that is familiar with the welding of aluminum can repair that.

yeah thats what i was thinking hoping someone can do it on the motor cause part of the motor would have to take of flywheel carb all the front end stuff to take it in thanks for the advice glad to know that its a fairly common prob and not just mine that is thick aluminum but wouldve thought thered be more support from bottom or side not hust from the top like it is

Are we talking about drilling a hole in the starter body and the power head alloy at a corresponding location and belting a pin of some sort through the two holes? Using the interference fit method?

Would you use Loctite or similar to secure the pin? What material would the pin need to be made of? I also have this problem.
