55 hp 79 johnson
original and new cable do the same thing
i ajust it as tight as it can go and still fit in the holding slot, but the linkage doesnt advance until the control box throttle is 3/4 of the way forward.
is there any way to make it catch instantly?

Second, is this start position in the correct spot? are the 2 lines supposed to be lined up with the pin in the center?

I can not see your motor, it does sound normal.----Throttle plates normally do not open fully until the last bit of forward motion of the handle.

Need to ask, is this your first boat and motor?----Issues with the performance of the motor?
It is but I've had it a few years. It wouldn't let me post a Post s pic.
The problem is it doesn't get gas when I put it in gear until the throttle is 3/4 forward, don't almost died then once it catches it revs high. There's no in between and I can't troll or go slow

Be easy to figure out if control box was here in front of me.----Time to have it checked at a shop.----Sounds like an issue with the control box.

Sorry====Can not help without actually seeing the bits / pieces that you have.-----What condition is the motor in ?-----Post actual compression values here.
