79 johnson 35 hp controls

I guess I should have asked if you have the electrical harness & switch. As originally supplied in '79 those parts were not in the remote control, but the switch was dash-mounted. With that set-up, any Johnson Shipmaster or Evinrude Simplex control will work with proper engine attachments. Those two controls were two-lever controls. Manual shift single lever controls can work also but the contained electrical system may not be compatible.
 
Ok i have the electrical pigtail with 5 wires coming from it, then i have the battery cables, and i am missing the throttle and shift cables, so what youre saying is that i should be able to wire in a keyswitch to the pigtails and then find one of the two control boxes you mentioned for shifting and throttle?
 
Yes. The two-lever controls are plentiful and simple. They came in two styles, the old ones with round ball knobs on the levers, and the newer ones with shaped knobs. The newer ones also came in two types of cables. Either type will work, but cables must match the control box. I'd avoid the old ones with round balls.
