Hi guys,
Just a quick one for you's here,
Can anyone please tell me how to remove the gearcase extension from my
79' 25hp Evinrude I brought it with the idea of building a jackplate but as I was searching through a parts guide for this engine model I noticed it had a 5" extension section right above the cav plate I'm guessing its pretty straight forward but I have very limited knowledge of outboard engines.

Thanks in advance.

You need the short parts driveshaft, lower shift shaft and water tube. The gearbox needs to be disassembled may as well put in a new seal kit. The water tube can be cut if your careful not to cut it short. You will need the shorter front bolt also that goes in from the top.

Gearbox does not need to be disassemled to install a shorter driveshaft.-------Long one slides out and short one slides in.

Yep, use a chainsaw file to file a notch exactly 5 inches below the original. Notch does not have to go all the way around, just on the side for the connector bolt.
