'79 Evinrude 9.9HP Rich/Lean Knob Initial Settings

Is there a specific initial setting for the rich/lean knob on a '79 Evinrude 9.9HP? For example, on my jet skis the low speed carburetor needles are adjusted by screwing them in until seated and then turned out 1 1/8 turns. Is there an initial setting like this on the 9.9? The engine seems to be running fine but I want to be sure I'm getting the proper fuel mixture and not running it too rich or lean.

I would imagine the knob is there so you make it rich for full throttle operation or lean out for low speed trolling to prevent plug fouling. I don't know if there is an initial mixture setting and then you adjust from there while running.

Thanks,
Kevin

No the carburetor has a fixed high speed jet for full throttle fuel metering.--------------That needle adjusts the fuel mixture when carburetor plate is closed.-------------So it is for idling.-----------------------Set it so that there is a slight hesitation on acceleration for best results.

Thanks for the info. Good to know the high speed operation is 'idiot proof'. I've seen a lot of jet skis melt pistons due to high speed lean conditions. That's the biggest thing I was trying to avoid. Since it's running and idling good now I'll call it done and not mess with anything else.
