I'm cleaning the carbs of the 140 in my sig and noticed the idle jets are different from side to side. Both carbs are the same with a #34 in one side an a #31 in the other. Looking at the diagrams here tells me I need only one idle jet for a 140, which has to be a mistake, but at that it says a #30. I see from another source that a 78 115 has a different idle jets side to side so I'm wondering if that is the case with the 140. The body of the carb has printing on it that says use #25 on one side and #27 on the other which means I'd put an 85 HP jet on one side and a 115 Port jet on the other. I found the cast in part number on the carb body crosses to a 140 carb so I'm thoroughly confused.
I know the jets have been monkeyed with as the #31 jets were buggered up from an attempt to remove them and I had to dress them around the screwdriver slot. This may have been during a cleaning attempt and not an attempt to change them but a lot can happen in 36 years
I've not had the motor on the water yet I've only run it on a stand where it ran OK but I was hoping that was just junk in the carbs. Now I'm wondering if I have bigger issues and I'd like to get the jetting resolved before putting the carbs back on.
So the question is; what is the stock jetting for idle and what does the main jet size cross to in decimal? I'm concerned the main jets are wrong but I can't see any numbering on them, and I've not measured them yet, but I don't want to drop 40 bucks in jets for no reason.
