Hey everyone. Been awhile. Had a great summer due to all the help on here. I’m now at the point where I need to think winterizing. What do I need to do?
ive heard different things ranging from antifreeze through a hose into the water intake. Is this necessary? My local shop says all they do too winterize there boats is fog oil, gear oil change, fuel stabilizer. They say the engine doesn’t hold anything that can freeze.
I’m a little worried, it gets really really cold here. Like -40c... does the thermostats hold water in the waterjacket??? That’s my main question and concern...
thanks everyone. Appreciate the advice and tips!

Your shop is right. Just make sure the motor is stored in the down position and turned over a couple of times when done fogging.

Yep. I like to top off my built-infuel tank and add Stabil 360. Then I take the boat out for a run to get the engine up to full operating temp and run the stabilized fuel through everything. Next either at the ramp or on muffs at home I start the engine and spray in fogging oil until the engine dies. With the engine trimmed all the way down the block will completely drain out any cooling water. Finally, I drain the lower unit and refill with Evinrude HPF.

I like to change the plugs after fogging, and while each plug is out, a little squirt of mystery oil into the cylinder. Its also a great time to check your lower unit oil, if you havent already.
