I'm having an intermittent problem with my starter and came here to get the part, but discovered there are a lot of parts to the starter. Here's the problem. half the time I push the starter button, the starter spins, but it doesn't pop up to engage the fly wheel. IDK what part to get to fix this. All help and suggestions are appreciated.

I wondered if it was the battery or power issue, but it does it on two different batteries I've tried. Additionally, sometimes I have to take the cowl off use the rope to start it, but the next time the electric starter works fine.

Well ---I would take the starter apart for inspection.----Easy to do.----Or it could be a bad solenoid.------Some simple testing will help you.----Do you have a multimeter, yes or no ?

That problem is normally caused by a loose, or most likely tight but dirty connections. The cure is...............

Remove "all" connections pertaining to the electric starter, including the battery terminals, starter solenoid, even the main black ground cable at the powerhead. Clean "all" of the cable/wire terminal ends thoroughly along with whatever component they're attached to, then tighten them securely with a wrench or pliers... not with your fingers if wing nuts are encountered.

I have same motor. My starter was going bad. Found a brand new starter online for like $30. May be your best option depending what you find out when you take it apart.

I saw a video on youtube about this and am going to try this prior to the other things, although, the other things may need to be done as well. It's like everyone has said, these are pretty easy to disassemble and reassemble. TY

@ JoeReeves Yep, cleaning stuff almost always helps, especially if it hasn't been done in a long time! TY

@ RACERONE Probably worthwhile to do as well, that's the 3rd step. TY

@ Johnsonmitc it's my last ditch option, but the one I was looking for, before I found the forum. TY
