75hp Mercury "TRACKER" 2005

Just picked up a 75hp 3cyl tracker, it has no gauges but 4 wires with ends that look like they would plug into somthing. Any idea what kind of gauges are available for this engine? Has anyone experience with a Tracker? is it a Force?

2005 can't be a Force. They stopped making that in '99. Must be a Merc. Just the basic tach and battery is all you need.
The wires should be colored purple, black, grey.

Never owned a motor this new, is the motor wired for a temp gauge and how can I test that the overheat horn is working? Also could a dealer plug into harness and tell me how many hours are on motor?

No, can't tell "how many hours" - no engine computer on this model.

Not wired for a temp gauge. There is a temp sensor for the overheat alarm but it does not translate into something you could wire into a gauge. A temperature kit is available as an add on and includes it's own sensor that you would have to install on the block.

Your horn should give you a beep when you first turn the key.

Alternately, back at the engine harness if you use a jumper and ground out the tan/blue wire (number 3 pin on the harness I think), with the key in the "run" position, you should get a steady horn...

It was simply a model "branded" for Tracker - Merc has done that for a few of the builders over the years. In an effort to keep the "package cost" low, sometimes the motor lacked all the bells/whistles that you would find on the regular model, but generally mechanically they were the same - the "tracker" sticker might be the only difference between yours and a 2005 75 horse "Merc".

Some of the earlier Tracker models were Force (Merc built partly Chrysler, partly Merc), but the Force line was totally scrapped well before the 2000 model year.

By the time your model was built it was just a plain Merc. The 75 shared a powerhead with the 90 horse. The 75 was discontinued after the 2005 model year but the 90 is still in production, albeit updated a bit.

That means that parts support is still pretty decent and should continue to be good for quite a few years yet.

I have a 2005 75hp 3 cylinder tracker (Merc) the throttle control stuck going back into neutral and the just popped in. Now when you start it is races in neutral. Sounds to me like maybe a linkage fell out,but I can't see which one it might be. Any Ideas?
