"I have a 1989 Mariner, everytime I get out on the water it only runs at high RPMs for a few minutes then shuts down like it's out of fuel, and it won't restart for about 30min. The plugs are always fouled after this happens. The motor will run in nuetral until I turn it off. Any idea what could be causing this."

"Almost forgot, motor has new fuel and oil pumps, brand new NGK BUHW-2 plugs, and fresh fuel in the tank."

Tough one. See if you can chec

Tough one. See if you can check for spark out there after it quits. Bad stators were common back then. Because if you ran it out of fuel it would start back up if you prime the bulb (fuel pump) 30 min sounds like the stator cooling off.

"2nd problem, when I try to look up parts, my serial number doesn't match up. The ones listed are 7 number numerical, mine is 8."

"Checked the spark, had it on

"Checked the spark, had it on all 3 cylinders, but it wasn't even. Very hot spark on top cylinder that progressively lower on the bottom 2 cylinders. also engine will still run with either the 2nd or 3rd wires pulled but shuts right off if the top wire is disconnected. pulling the third wire makes a very slight difference in performance, the 2nd make it slightly worse."

"Yeah, alright. I have noticed

"Yeah, alright. I have noticed that on 3 cylinders, too. Does not seem cause a problem by itself. I was just wondering if that spark cut out totally obviously.
Hmmm... Dang.
You don't have any way of checking that stator. (special DVA meter)"

Still may be a fuel issue. But

Still may be a fuel issue. But than it would have to flooding out rich. Because you already fixed the pump so the gas is getting to the carbs when this happens. All this E-10 crap makes it harder. I have seen it do strange stuff

"I just read a report on e-10

"I just read a report on e-10 and outboard motors, I'm going to try putting on a water seperating fuel filter. Still doesn't seem to explain why it will run fine in my driveway and only stall out when in gear at WOT."

"Well, in the drive way the OB

"Well, in the drive way the OB isnt under load. Being under load requires much more fuel.

Its possible that your floats are off or the mixture is too lean.

Does it ever run fine or is it always like this?"
