I recently purchased a 7.5 hor

I recently purchased a 7.5 horse outboard in a farm auction sale and I cannot find a serial #?? it has upper and lower blue stripe on sides with MERCURY in white letters. Also has thunderbolt ignition on front of engine cover. The only numbers that I can see is 61619 on base of throttle(steering) arm. Anyone know where I might be able to locate serial# ?

found a plate in a box of spare parts 7017328 I believe this is a canadian serial # but not sure if it is for 7.5 mentioned above

"Scott that serial would make it a 1973'ish model - Canadian records really suck.

Unfortunately, Mercs don't really have a serial - it's just a production number that contains absolutely no information.

So that could be the plate from that 7.5 or any other Merc motor built in Mississaua in the early 70's."
