My name is Shaun Holmes, I am from South Africa and have just purchased a Johnson 20hp motor. I wanted to ask if there is a service manual available for it. The motor runs fine at top end but battles a bit at bottom end. We have been skiing behind it and found that it does not pull straight away, it has a sort of dead spot. I am not entirely motor literate but enjoy tackling new ventures... e.g. servicing our little toy.

Please could you advise me of a link or perhaps a book that can help me service this motor.

What year is the motor? We sell Owner's, Service, and Parts manual for the pre-1980 Johnson motors. You can order them online at our Johnson pre-1980 manuals page.

If the motor is 1980 or newer, you could consider an aftermarket manual... such as the ones here.

... or you could go to a Johnson/Evinrude dealer for a factory manual.
