75 johnson 115 tilt trim issue

Hello all,

My son recently purchased a boat with a 1975 Johnson on it. I took apart the tilt cylinder to rebuild, and I cannot get the tilt line assembly to seal against the cylinder assembly. Of course it was sealed prior to my disassembly. I did not find an o ring in it when taking it off, but may have missed it. Should there be one and if so where does it sit?

Thank you for your help.

Thanks Jake, I did see the diagram and it appears that part 55 is the o ring in question. does anyone know if it goes around the threaded nipple on 54 or does the tip of 54 compress is against the cylinder body?

Take a close look.----It should be fairly obvious where that o-ring goes.----I believe there is a groove for it on the cylinder.

I have one of these units, Prestolite. Took it off the engine because the hydraulic motor kept tripping out on the thermal relay. Replaced with CMC and no longer have the engine.
