"I have an old outbooard, believed to be a 1982, 7.5 h.p. mercury and I need to know how I change the Impeller. Is there a manual, diagram, instructions that would help. I can't afford to take in into the shop because of the high labor rates.

"Anybody that can turn a wrench should be able to rebuild a water pump I would say you do need a book on your motor.

I have a late 70's model 7

I have a late 70's model 7.5 Merc that I use for my duck boat. Last fall it seized up because it wasn't cooling. I didn't notice because it was very dark that morning. I took it to a repair shop and he wouldn't even take it in his shop. He pulled the chord and said it was junk. The compression felt the same to me as it has for the last 20 years that I've had it. Is it worth fixing or is it really shot?

"After running my old KG-7 Merc out of water, I got back home by splashing water on the exposed cylinder block. After changing the impeller, I ran it for the rest of the summer. It was down on power, but it still ran.
