"the key sheared off on the fywheel and I broke the timing belt, I got a new belt and key and put it back together, now it idles faster, how do set the idle, can I just adjust the screws in the carbs or do I have to play with the timing settings to, keith"

"you need to find 28 degrees and set the WOT timing there. The easiest way to do this now adays is to get an adjustable timing light. Chrysler had a special tool to do the timing, then you could put a decal on the flywheel.

Once the timing is good for WOT- you can set the idle speed and adjust the carbs for best idle. Make sure they all run together and one does not "lead" the others. Then you can set the mixture with a small hose in your ear and set to sound- If the butterflys are wrong- this won;t work.

There is a reason your timing belt broke, and you need to fix that. Check your ignition cap for carbon tracks that will make it fire out of time. Also check for "run away coil" where the coil fires on it's own. The rotor does not come off the shaft so don't mess with that. "
