re: model 25502B

Have some weepage from the top seal and am wondering if it can be replaced/assembled without a special tool?

And with the top seal leaking how likely is it that the bottom crank seal needs to be replaced as well? Major job?

Thanks.

Lots of them have been replaced without the special tool. Some people have punched holes in them and screwed in a couple of drywall screws to pull the seal out. Others have picked them out in pieces. A lot depends on your luck, skill and bravery. Anyway, to answer your question, the lower seal is a totally different design. IF, and I say again, IF failure of the lower seal had anything to do with failure of the upper seal, you can expect to find catastrophic bearing damage throughout the powerhead. Unless the shaft flops fore and aft, don't be worrying about it.

Thanks for the info. I'm hoping bravery and skill will triumph over my lack of luck and will give it a shot. :)

What type of sealant is best used around the new one when putting it in?
