"Hello. I recently rebuilt the two carbs on my 50hp evinrude and I can't seem to adjust them properly. Right now the engine will start and run at a high rpm, then slows down and then eventually shuts off. I can get one more start right after that but once it shuts down again it will not restart. Also my engine did overheat once prior to the carb overhaul, how can i check if the block is ok?"

149psi in the upper and 150psi in the lower. Another question: do the spark plugs need to be gapped and do I have to buy the plugs from a marine dealer or can i buy them from a auto store? thanks.
 
"Conventional plugs, Champion

"Conventional plugs, Champion L77JC4, or the suppressed version QL77JC4, should be gapped at 0.030" However Shop.evinrude.com list the surface gapped UL77V which do not require setting.
You can buy them from the supplier of your choice.

Thank you Vics. Any suggestions on engine quiting out? Does it have to do with the way the carbs are adjusted?
