73 johnson 9.5 water leak

put new water pump impeller in , everything went good came apart easy , when started back up to test, pumping good water , but noticed water leaking between the outer case and the inner case. I can belive the water tube pulled from head , but what else could it be ? looking for some advice before I tear back down

no its not item 43 , I checked that , yes its a short shaft , its a 1973 9.5 , best way to explain is when running pumps good water , there is space, between the outer case , and inner case ,around where the bolts are to remove bottom end , there is water running out between cases , something is leaking , I changed impeller , everything came apart easy , the motor runs fine idles great just leaking

The powerhead bolts to a long "Exhaust Housing" which the lower unit bolts up to. I assume you're calling the "exhaust housing" the... Inner Casing?

The shell (Motor Cover) that shields the engine and allows the hood to be attached... I assume you're calling that the Outer Casing?

If water is exiting where the lower unit bolts up to the long exhaust housing... that's pretty much a normal happening as that is a metal to metal surface connection. Nothing to be concerned about but if it irks you, either make a gasket or stick some sealer in there.

If I am reading this correctly, the water is coming from the drain holes shown in this picture. That is NORMAL!!!!
