72 Johnson hydro shift oil pump screen question

I had a issue with shifting no neutral or reverse and looks like I found my problem cracked oil pump where screen is located so I ordered new oil pump assembly with gold colored screen. My question is do I have to have this gold fine hole screen in place when I install new one or is this just a problem waiting to happen as there is another larger hole screen made into the new one. I can see this being a problem clogging up in the future but wanted to ask to make sure. Anything else I should know before putting it all together also replacing clutch dog with new one since I am already into this gearcase everything else looks to be in good condition any tips tricks I should know or just put back just as taken apart thanks

Looks like it had water in it at one time.-------Best to install a seal kit while it is apart.-----Test the shift function BEFORE installing it back onto the motor.

ok thank you so water in the gearcase would cause this screen to come apart like this and yes I have all new seals and o rings and solenoids check out at 6 ohms .
