hello all, does the drive shaft move clockwise in a 1972 johnson 100hp 100ESL72R? just wondering what the R stands for? I just put an impeller in it and rolled the driveshaft clockwise like most motors but just want to be sure. the 2 pictures of the impeller in the service manual (impeller position) were confusing, looked like it was turning c clockwise yet the photo of the drive shaft for reverse, neutral, and drive on the same page showed the drive shaft turning clockwise. (Maybe the photos of the impeller are a view looking at it from the skeg, lol). thanks in advance.
 
??????????---The lower unit would be in forward gear -------If you spin the drive shaft clockwise ( looking down on the pump ) then the propshaft also turns clockwise ( looking at the prop )

when i installed mine i was turning the prop shaft counter clockwise did i do it backwards? and if i stripped one of the thread on the water pump will that affect it?
 
You install the impeller on the shaft ------then lower and push the housing on -------You do that while turning the DRIVESHAFT in a clockwise direction ( looking down on the pump )---------------I believe very clear instructions were posted for impeller installation some weeks ago.
