72 Evinrude 115 hp V4 outboard

I am having several problems with the motor and hoping if I list all that has happen someone might be able to tell*me what the issue/issues are?* First time with this motor.
*
Of course we tested motor before dropping in lake and knew we were gonna have battery issues.* Motor would not initially start till we recharged battery.* Once that was done, motor seemed to start fine.
Took boat out on lake, dropped it and of course it wouldn't turn over and you could feel power draining from battery so we boosted it.* That day it ran but motor seemed to drag/wouldn't speed up much and there was a jerky movement/boat wouldn't plane.* Shut engine off after running for 30 mins restarted no problem but dragging feeling and jerkiness still evident.
*
Bought new battery, hooked it all up and headed out.* Motor started with a little bit of difficulty, took bout 4 minutes of continuous trying* to get it to turn over.* Everything seemed ok heading out channel in low speed, but when it was opened up same drag/jerky movement happened.* After a few minutes motor stalled and we couldn't get it restarted.* There is plenty of power getting to the motor however it just wont turn over.
Then this evening we noticed there is a fluid leaking from the propeller.* It is dark, smells like gas, feels like oil?
Any help would be appreciated as this will have to be a do it yourself job.
Also I am some what*mechanically illiterate *and would require some things to be dumbed down a bit.
Thank you

You first need to list the model # of the motor, they did not market a 115 HP in 1972.---------------Do a compression test and check that you have spark at each plug that will jump a gap of 7/16" or better.------------The fluid leaking may be " normal "--------------check the lower unit oil , or better yet change it. It requires Type- C gear oil as it is electric shift. If indeed it is a 70 / 71 or 125 HP 1972 model.
