i am helping my friend with hi

i am helping my friend with his boat. it has a 72 johnson 100hp and the timing belt broke i was wondering if anyone knows how to set the timeing belt with proper timing so i wont damage the engine

There is no such thing as a timing belt on a 72- 100HP motor.What is the model # ????????
