I'm replacing the shift rod boot on my 9.5 sportwin. I have the power head removed from the clam shell halves with mid-section still attached. I can access the shift rod boot plate however can not get it down over both the shift rod and water tube as the water tube has a 'dog leg' bend that it hangs up on. The exploded views aren't a lot of help and the service manual says to "pull water tube upward from exhaust housing" (after removing the 3 screws securing the shift rod boot plate). There is about 1/8" back and forth wiggle in the water tube but thats all I can get it to move. Is there anything retaining that water tube in the bottom of the power head?

I don't want to separate the mid section from the power head if at all possible as I don't have a new replacement gasket. Not sure if that would help anyway? Thoughts . . . suggestions?

Thanks
Sam

The water tube is secured to the top end of the exhaust housing by a push nut. Sorry, but you have to remove the powerhead in order to remove and reinstall the water tube. Hey, that's why you removed it from the clamshell halves anyway. Right?

EDIT: #55 & 56 are push nut and washer at top end of water tube.

I wasn't planning on this much "fun". I actually separated the clam shell halves to replace the Exhaust boot/seal (a former post) but thought . . .while I was that far. . .so here I am.

Once you are done you will hopefully have a sweet running motor.----And at 60 lbs a motor that you can carry yourself.
