"I just purchased the boat fro

"I just purchased the boat from a "friend". Was told it needed a new control box. The motor is in forward gear, the two wires coming from the lower unit are not attached to anything. How can I test the lower unit to make sure it shifts properly before I put any $ into this motor. I didn't want to put 12 volts on it as I know nothing about it. I assume that it gets a ground from the body and one lead is forward the other reverse and no power neutral? Any positive help would be great."

and you better prey that was not not johnnys best idea the wires are a pain i have had to repair quite a few be careful when you do a water pump had some customers mess the wires up and make sure you keep the water out of the lower
