I can take my boat out for as long as I want, but once I shut it off is the problem. Will restart, but won't run after putting into gear. I can go back the next day and the same will happen.

Is something heating up or suggestons

When was the last time the carbs were cleaned. I would try that first. Only takes a couple hours. I had poor idle and no top end power. I found the bowl gasket screws were loose and I had a small hole in one of the carb fuel lines.

This was on a 1981 J75TRLCIM

Model number... or year if you're absolutely sure of it?

That problem is normally caused by a engine that is suddenly not running on all cylinders. With insulated pliers, when the engine is running in this condition, one cylinder at a time, remove and replace the spark plug lead to see if you get the same response on all cylinders... or not.

Also, visually and closely inspect the stator under the flywheel to see if a sticky looking substance is dripping down from it onto the powerhead area. If this condition exists, that would result in a AC voltage drop to the powerpack capacitor that would affect the ignition when hot.

Let us know what you find.

just for grins, try richening up the idle mixture screws 1/4 turn. Sometimes they run great on muffs or barrel, but need a tick more fuel when in water due to increased backpressure of the exhaust being submerged a bit deeper under water.
