70EL77 Water pump replacement

Currently my pump is working well, I can tell via the tell tale I installed.

Looked up the part number for the water pump replacement kit...seems it's no longer available.

What pieces and parts do I need to have on hand to do a typical water pump replacement?

I want to have them on hand so that I can replace it when necessary without having to wait for parts to ship.

Thanks!

this is the p/n for the water pump repair kit 0438579 this will have the typical parts that will need to be replaced. The price on this site is 53.08 and that is the oem part number

I don't see how you got that part number though...The number on the parts list(which is no longer available) isn't related to your part number that I can find...can you teach me how you found it?

yes it is a johnson M#70el77 correct that would be a 1977 70hp outboard and that water pump kit will work for all 70/75hp from 1974 to 1978 just the impeller kit is p/n 382547 and the water pump repair kit is the number i gave you I found that in the johnson, evinrude and omc accessorys catalog. With the older johnson evinrudes the parts like these are pretty universal. Also they didn't make the kits when they first came out so that's why you cant find it in the diagrams for that engine

Yes, that model number is correct. I didn't go through the accessories catalog...just assumed the part number on the parts catalog would get me there eventually, but it never did.

That's perfect though, thank you very much for the help! Even though it's still pumping, I'm going to replace it after this season simply for peace of mind.

with that honda 50 it might be worth it so spray the plug wires down with a spray bottle in the dark so u can see the spark better and see if they are cracked anywhere if they are you will see it ark out on something. what i do is take a well insulated screw driver and run it about half an inch away from the wire when you are cranking it over and after you mist them with the water and if it sparks to the screw driver its time for new wires and possibly plugs
