70 Mercury 200 20hp flush plug.

I have a 1970 Mercury 200 20HP with thunderbolt ignition. I noticed on the lower unit right by the vent screw it has another plug that says flush. I'm not sure what that is. Am I able to hook a fitting up to this plug to run the motor instead of using muffs. I use the boat In the Chesapeake Bay so I flush it after every use using muffs. It would be a lot easier if that is what this plug was designed for. thanks for any info.

You remove the plug,---Install the factory fitting that was available at one time.------Hook up the garden hose to it to flush the motor.

Does it flush the motor without running it, or do I still need to start it up?

The power head will flush the same---run it or not.
