My 87' 70HP Evinrude will not start and turns over slow like, the battery is low and it has no spark. It was running fine when we put it away for the winter, and it has always started rightaway in past years. The only thing diffent is, we replaced the solenoid last year., could that have gone bad?? HELP

Battery must be fully charged and in good condition.-----If motor turns over slow there will be no spark.----------Charging the battery is the first thing to do.

I always start with a fully charged battery and i also tried a different fully charged battery

The engine must crank over via the electric starter at least 300 rpm in order for the stator under the flywheel to energize the powerpack (keeping it simple).

Run separate known good jumper cables from a good know fully charged battery directly to the starter as a test of the starter. If the starter cranks over fast, the starter is okay and a voltage drop exists somewhere within the cables/wiring associated with the electric starter system... usually a loose cbale/wire OR a tight but dirty connection. If this is the case.........

Remove the cbales/wires associated with the starting system, including the battery terminals and the ground at the powerhead, clean all of the cable/wire end terminals as well as the components they attach to, then tighten them, securely with a wrench or pliers, NOT your fingers if wing nuts are attached.

Thousands of parts in my remaining stock. Not able to list them all. Let me know what you need and I'll look it up for you. Visit my eBay auction at:

Sorry , but post # 1 says your battery is LOW and your motor will not start.----Now you say you always have a fully charged battery. ???--------Post exactly what is happening for further help !!

Thanks for the info Racerone!! I took jumper cables, hooked them up to my trolling motor battery and it started on the first crank. I guess i need a new battery or new cables...Thanks!!!!!!!

if the battery is 3 years old or older i would replace it...and make sure the rectifier/regulator is working....
