70 HP Evinrude

Would a 1976 Evinrude 70 HP be too much weight and/or power for a 14' riveted semi V Jon Boat? I currently have a 25 HP and it is not doing the trick. I know 70HP is alot, but I found the motor for sale really cheap and was thinking about picking it up. My transom is composed of a 2x8" treated board and 15 stainless steel bolts holding it to the hull. The boat is 14' long and is about 54" at the beam at it's widest point.

That engine is a little over 200 lbs. I would say it is way too big. Likely a 20" shaft as well.
Your boat is likely rated for 20 or 25 hp max.
25 HP should be flying unless you are over loaded.
