70 hp 2 stroke power problem

I have a 70hp yamaha outboard was running fine then noticed at high revs under power would sound like labouring would back off throttle and motor would pick up and run normal then next outing motor out of gear idiled and reved fine then in gear no power at all like motor was struggling under enormous strain any ideas ???

When was the water pump serviced last ?-----You need to do a compression test first.----Followed by a check to see if you have STRONG spark at each cylinder.------------Then look into carburetors , squeeze primer bulb and look for leakage.-----Check gear oil too.

Thanks mate. Will give what u have suggested a try & let u know how it goes! I actually thought the gear oil too, so lets see how that goes!! Thanks!!
