"O.K. This is what I have done.I have repowered from a OMC to Yamaha,and I can't get the tach to work at all.I am useing a 703 Yamaha remote with Green,Black-Yellow leads.The tack is a Telaflex international.From the remote I have the yellow to the power on the tach and the green to the pulse and black to ground.I've changed the pulse setting from 6 to 3 with no help.I've got power to it because it moves the tach to 0 when you key on but the needle dosen't move when you start the engine at all.The tach worked last fall when the Evinrude went down.The Yamaha is a fresh power head install and I sure don't need to over rev. the thing.I have not had it in water yet just on hose after installing to power. I've read on other forums that on these older 3 cyd's that Yamaha had a converter box that you had to install,I don't know,That's what I am trying to fine out but no reply's.Seems to me that a OEM tach would be the answer if this was the case.In rebuilding the Yamaha I also installed a new stater but I don't see where this would be a problem.Someone Please shead some lite on this for me.
