"I have a 6 HP Seahorse Model 6R75-R, so I suspect its a 1975 motor. One of the cylinders seems to cut out at lower RPM's. When you rev it, it'll come back. Seems like it looses spark on a cylinder. Put new plugs in it and same result. Any electrical checks I can do to see if I have something going bad??

Thanks,

Dale"

"Pull the flywheel, remove coils and inspect for cracks / burn thru and grounding to magplate.Very. very common fault. One simple test is to REDUCE plug gap to 0.020" to see if running improves. The other test is spark output --- A good coil can jump a gap of 1/4" or more."

"Well, it runs much better at low RPM with pluggs gapped around 0.020" vs around 0.030", which is where I found them.

If this indicates a weak coil, but motor runs OK with them gapped tighter - is there a problem running it like this till coil(s) die?? ANy other way to validate a bad coil or at least disquish between good / bad, like a resistance check or something?

Thanks for the input.

Dale"
