6hp flushing adapter question

My engine is bolted in the engine well in the lazerette on my sailboat. I can't raise it up or tilt it up to flush it out at the dock. I see they sell an adapter to flush it at the block, this would work well for my situation. My question is can i use this adapter with the engine not running and does the thermostat need to be open for it to work. I can't run the motor or my water pump will just pump up salt water so the only way i could use it would be with the engine off. Is that the way this flushing adapter is suppose to be used?

Yes. The flushing adapter fits the MFS 4/5/6 at the underside of the power head, and will work best with the motor off. You will want that port closed off when running.
