6hp evinrude oil retainer dont fit

hi everyone im new here and was lookin for a little info i have a 75 6 hp evinrude and it was leaking oil out of the shaft so i ordered a new oil retainer and o ring got the parts and the o ring fits but the oil retainer is a full .06 of an inch bigger than the old one so i called the place to complain and they swear its the right and only one for this model. I tried pressing it in with a vice didnt go beatin it in with a socket it just dont fit anyone have any ideas? Any help will b greatly appreciated duck season is under a week away.
 
Talk to the parts people nicely------------I think there was a change made on the later models !!!--------------The housing may also have been changed / updated too.----------------Take the parts in or call someone who really knows their stuff.----------Take a look at the top of the page ------boat engine parts-------You will see there was a " change " on the later motors.

Well, i started off nice but towards the end i was prolly a lil rude but dont u think they should know that i mean that is what they do as a business but yea c what your sayin il have to do that thanks alot for the help
 
They tell me it is getting more and more difficult to find a 25 year old parts person with 42 years experience.
