6Gal Gas Tank Connector Problem

I have a 6 gallon plastic OMC gas tank model P6A.

The plug holding the spring and valve inside the connector pops out.
With the springs pushing on the plug.....what holds the plug in place?

The diagrams and part lists I have found do not show the details of this assembly....so I don't know if any parts are missing.

I was going to order a new assembly but they are no longer available from OMC and after searching the internet for way too long I still can't find one anywhere.
I need to fix this problem or spend $150 on a new tank.

thanks....Merk

I would look on E-Bay or Craigslist and find an older metal tank and get rid of that piece of CPS !!

I saw a video on superglue you might try. Just cover the seam good with super glue and then sprinkle baking soda on it. That will make it get hard instantly just rough it up good with coarse sandpaper so the glue has something to stick to? Might be worth a shot?
