"Hi guy's, Can anyone give me a little hint about the procedure of pulling the lower unit off of this 1969 9.50 hp johnson 9R-69S, Does something need to be unhooked under the engine to allow it to come off ? I have it unbolted and i have it loose, But i do not want to force it, Thank's in advance for any help.... Bob"

"If you have the lower unit unbolted, you'll see a bracket with two 3/8 bolt heads on the shift rod, remove one completely, the lower unit should fall away. Maybe a good tug or two if it's stuck a little. Pretty simple once you see how it works."

if you have unbltd the lower unit and the shft rod and stll wont come apart the main shaft is frozen into the crank shft.there are ways to overcome this problem by force pulling the g/box unit away from top unit which pulls m/shaft out of g/box destroys pump hsg then use clamp tool on m/shft to pull same out of crnk shaft
