68 merc 1100ss charging system

Does anyone know if my 68 kiekhafer mercury 1100ss with thunderbolt ignition has a charging system? I know for a fact it doesn't have a generator or alternator but I have ready some early motors used a rectifier. Just curious to see if anyone knows about this

For many years and including your motor there was a generating coil under the flywheel.------------And a rectifier was used to change the a/c from that coil to dc to charge the battery...............Early motors did not use an automotive belt driven alternator !

Do you know how to check this or what it might look like
