Pump ball and fuel pours from throath. pulled bowl three times. cork float, neeedle and seat are clean and clear. Hosed off with carb cleaner. re installed same condition THREE TIMES. with bowl off i can stop fuel flow by lifting up on the float with ease. the free travel in float is approx 1/4" up and down. When i re install it all and pump a gush of fuel pours out the throat again. I 'am sick of smelling like fuel. What's up Please.

Put some gasoline in a container and see if the float floats. What is the history...when did it last run properly???

It has a rubber gasket. The four screws that retain bowl appear to hold gasket from interfering with float. I'am with you on this the float is hanging up somehow. Although it is a litte floppy from age. Can i seal with rtv instead of using this gasket?

Foat tested cork float. It was fine. Engine ran well about a year ago untill it lost a coil. I've resolved that coil problem. Infact it was'nt the coil it was the cut'out switch. Pulled needle and wiped rubber sealing tip. It too seem to travel up and down smoothly, even with float hinge pin in place. What else could let fuel gush out of throat other than float not seating needle? Somethiing is hanging the float during bowl installation. Right?

We all know that there are 4 screws holding the gasket !----You say that it leaks like a sieve.-----------There must be something wrong !----Have you tried a new gasket ??------Have you tried using less torque on the screws to keep the gasket from squeezing out ?------------Do not even think about using RTV when gasoline is involved , it just will not work !!!

The center of the carb has a tube extending down from the top and inserts into the bowl when installed. When I dry fit the bowl(without gasket) i notice that there is a small gap where bowl gasket should be. If this tube gasket is not right, could the fuel float thru this area and make it to the throat, before it fills the bowl, and never floats the "float"? The gasket appears in good repair, and I 'am assuming the gap at bowl/ carb body where gasket goes, is a indication that the tube gasket is matting. What du u think? Also , could it have anything to du with elect. choke inadvertantly being activated while I'am pumping tank ball?

Choke operation ( not cranking ) will not cause leaks !!---------------When you find the problem you will likely say ------" that was simple "

Thank you forum, and all the responded to my forehead rubbing. Own excavation business with 8 pieces of equipment. So,this has been fun, and quite different. This outboard stuff, is delicate at times, like all equipment. Anyway, Became much more familiar with this carb. Got kit, installed in 10 min., re-installed carb and It ran like a new machine. Thanks all again. Mike
