Huh... A wire thing for indexing on bakelite rotor #382424 ? I don't recall anything like that when the engine was new. Perhaps something I just overlooked. Any other tech out there aware of that wire thing?

I've never see anything like that on that rotor either and I was working on them when that motor was new. Maybe the OP should post a pic of it.

First of all let's stay focused on the post. I am looking for a 1968 Evinrude 100 hp distributor rotor. If you've never seen what indexes this rotor, then you have never seen one. You're opinion is weak and flimsy so maybe you should stick with checking tire pressure, and washing windshields. Where I come from internal combustion is called an engine, not a motor. On that note, if you can point me in the direction of the location of this part, it would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Ron

Really wish you hadn't said that. A direct insult to one technician and a indirect insult to another, both of which have been in the trade with OMC and Bombardier dating back to when all that existed was a magneto and mechanical shift. The resulting knowledge being total of it all, meaning that the wire thing you're looking for is unlikely to have ever existed. However, and due to your snide remark.... refer to Rett Butler's very last line to Scarlett Ohara as portrayed by Clark Gable in the movie, Gone With The Wind.

The rotor is supposed to have a key molded into the plastic which interfaces with a notch in the crankshaft. Yep, I was a technician in an Evinrude dealership when the motor was new. But now I guess I'm demoted to checking tire pressure and washing windshields. BTW, Ole Evinrude called his 1909 invention a Detachable Row Boat Motor. Go argue with him.

Just for the record, I was forced to take a part-time job at a gas station when the oil shortage and luxury tax combined to nearly destroy the marine industry (and did destroy some). I would not call that a demeaning job. I was subject to nightly dangers of holdup and theft. And I had to make up for shortages in the till out of my own pay. Hats off to those people working in those jobs.

Alright fellies about talkin smack? I'm sorry for that. tire pressure and washing windshields I did to back when gas was .24 gal It was full service back in the day. I see them as the good old days Again sorry about trash talk.Ive had a long career as a wrench 25yrs as a Ford aerospace technician, also 20yrs as a Registered Chrysler trouble shooter. And Now just a grumpy old shade tree mechanic that is looking for Obsolete parts Maybe its the Challenge I use to enjoy Coming to the end of it all so im a little Impatient . please forgive this old man. thanks again

Man, I used to bag groceries, now I break motors. Or are they engines? The 8000 hp "things" in these ore carriers that I rebuild are ENGINES, to me anything less than that is a "motor". I get insulted all the time, my wife could drive a construction worker to shame.
I have a used rotor somewhere around.
Remember, grumpy, these boys are helping people for FREE here.

What sounds best to you......outboard "engine" or outboard "motor"?.......All electrics, however are "motors". I.O's are engines, at least to me.....
Transom, ha! Now here is a cyl head Speer work Luis 3-1-15.jpg. How bout that piston.....each cyl develops 500 hp. at 600 rpmSpeer work 2-8-15.jpg
