66 Glastron needs new motor.

Im new to the Marineengine.com forums so please excuse any errors. My family has a 1966 Glastron beautiful boat had the interior completely re-done getting the exterior done next fall. Last summer the mercruiser 305 gave out on us this unit was installed in the early 80's along with a new lower unit. pulling the motor we find the head and block both are cracked along with the carb has been rebuild 1 too many times and needs replaced. we plan to pull all the wiring from pilots seat back to motor and re wire all new guages. we found a late 80's 1ton pickup with a 350 starts and runs perfect no leaking oil or anything on the block or pan at all. were thinking about just throwing that in there and taking our chances since it only takes about 2 hours tops to pull a motor out of this boat. now the 350 we want to put in the boat has a throttle body set up on it.

Our question is what components need changed/replaced/added to make the throttle body set up work in our boat?

now i know a properly tuned carb is just as good as a FI system in most cases and the fuel consumption may not be very noticeable but since we already need a new carb were thinking this would be a nice set up if it wont take much to convert the truck system to use in our boat. ive personally pulled FI systems off of old toyota trucks and set them up with a carb for off-roading but never the other way around so any input will be greatly appreciated thank you!

First you should not use a automotive block for marine unless you marineize it.
You need brass core plugs, marine grade head gaskets, Marine engine water pump (automotive are one directional stamped steel, marine are by directional and bronze), You should also change the oil pan to a marine and a matching oil pump. There may be more issues but this is all I can think of now.
Maybe others will add to the list.

second, I would NOT reccommend using a Automotive TBI or EFI on a marine engine without the proper marine certifications. Get the correct manifold and go with a marine carb period.

third, If you are still running a point ignition get a marine electronic distributor. If you have a Thunderbolt IV then reuse. You can not use a automotive distibutor in a boat. Explosion potential.

Forth, if the auto motor is a one piece real seal and the current motor is a two piece seal you will more than likely need a new flywheel and coupler.

My reccomendation would be to look closely at craigslist in your area and see if you can find what you want locally and ALL marine.
Also you can purchase a small block (long block) from a rebiulder for under $2000.

If you can do the work yourself to the block you found, head gaskets, core plugs, swap flywheels from old to new if rear mainseal is the same then all you would need is a manifold and carb. (marine holley 625 cfm) would work well or a rebiult marine rochester 4bbl froma reputable source (reccomend rochester, as the brackets and linkage will bolt right up).
