66 EVI 9.5 cowl question

Hi folks. I'm new to the list but not too new in years, I purchased a 66 Evi 9.5 "had" some 1/4 inch foam insulation glued within the cowl. It has taken half a day to remove the foam which was degraded and scrape / brush out the old adhesive. QUESTION; Any benifit to replacing the foam, I don,t know if it helped as I ran the motor with cowl off so as not to suck powdered foam into carb. Thank you in advance

I think the foam is there to deaden the noise(make it quieter)

Thank you COOL, saw one on ebay with the same foam.......A bad day fishing is better than a good day at work.

All it was there for was a silencer. If you can get along without it, do it. Less trouble.
