just bought motor. owner was not sure about year of motor. how can i find out

explain how to read the serial number. first to numbers are the year???
s# is 001450 so is that year 2000
where can i find the model # at

searched the bracket and unable to find any numbers??? serial # is 00145 does that mean year 2000? can not find a spirt 65hp made in 2000. appears that 98 or 97 were the last year of the 65hp spirit???

"You have a 1980. It was made by Suzuki. I've got one with lower unit/prop problems. MAKE 110% FUKING SURE IF A SHOP WORKS ON IT THEY KNOW THE YEAR.

I had a shop re-seal my lower unit and they fuked it up BIG TIME cuz they thought it was the FAR MORE COMMON 1985 and up.

Good luck finding parts for it. www.brownspoint.com is about the only place I've found that stocks parts."
