"Larry - I will assume your model is 659 H8 etc.

Chrysler only built the 65 horse in one model year - 1978 - so it kinda narrows it down

Gas/Oil will be 50:1 using standard marine 2 cycle oil rated TWC-3.

As to value - first answer: probably not as much as you think...

Chrysler marine is long out of business - no dealer network - parts no longer being produced.

So on top of it, this "orphaned" engine was produced in 1 model year - making things that much more scarce.

It is what you would consider a "small" mid-range horsepower motor so has limited applications. Would ideally power a 30-35 year old fiberglass runabout in the 16/17 foot range.

A late 80's Merc or OMC of similar horsepower usually brings in no more than about 500 bucks (depending on location and time of year) - so this would be worth somewhat less.

If you can use the motor and keep it running, that's where you will find it's most "value" - it is probably worth more in individual parts for others trying to keep similar vintage motors running than it is as a whole unit...."

"Hey larry, these things are scarce. Just picked one up myself, being a novice to older outboards and such, I went on Ebay and recently bought a maintenance manual, waiting for it now. Haven't had much experience with the inner workings of an outboard, when they have quit, just taken them into a mechanic, but I guess i am going to have to break down and learn. By the way, I paid $250 for mine and that included a 15 foot glastron V156, so wasn't sure it was going to run, but mixed up some gas pretty heavy with outboard oil, a lot heavier than 50:1, dumped the lower unit in a barrel of water, hit the switch and she took off."

please let me know if you get

please let me know if you get the book and it if it will help me. maybe you can help me in some way. thanks larry

"Hello all,

"Hello all,
I recently purchased a 69 deckboat with a 65 horse Chrysler outboard. When I bought the boat the reverse worked but has quit on me recently. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? I have ordered the shop manual for the engine but have not received it yet. I not sure if the manual will even include the information I need. Also, when motoring up it seems to get bogged down if the motor is given too much gas and I have to run it around and gradually get to full throttle. Is this a common problem with old outboard motors? Am I expecting too much? Obviously this is my first boat and I don't know much about them but I am mechanically inclined. If anyone could pass on any knowledge of this model engine it would be helpful. Thanks, Craig"
