"Just found this site and am glad I did. I LOVE my 65 Evinrude. It is very reliable, but has a few small issues. I know I am going to need some carb kits as it likes to die at its lowest speed(trolling). Also, I am betting it has been 10 years since the impeller was changed. What is the year of this motor? I want to get a service manual as I am sure there are some tricks to get the lower unit off. I am a bit confused as to how and if you have to tune all three carbs or is everything fixed so there is no adjustment?

I completely redid my 1958 55.5 hp. Johnson and learned the hard way about taking the lower unit off."

Is there a standard kit for impeller replacement or do I order seals separately? I saw the water pump repair kit, but just want to make sure I get the right parts the first time. All three carbs are the same, right? So, I just order three kits?

Another question....My dad has the controls for a later model(80's) 55 hp Johnson with a overheated engine. Since my ignition key is getting worn, I was looking at swapping out the controls. However, his control has the choke controlled by pushing in the key while cranking and I have the separate toggle switch. Can I make this switch work or should I just grin and bear it until I have to buy a new ignition switch?"
