62 fairliner twin 327 impeller help

"I have a 1962 fairliner twin

"I have a 1962 fairliner twin screw 327's having problems with the belt off of the waterpump. It wont seem to turn the pulley. i got it to turn after messing with it then nothing, i took the belt off and it seemed very worn and the pulley turned freely and the belt was on backwards, sounds crazy i know new to this so any help would be greatful."

I think I'd start with a new belt with reasonable tension. Don't forget to check the tension after it runs ~ 15 minutes.

"The thicker (wider) edge of the belt should be on the outside, just like on an automobile.

If the impeller you are referring to is on the circulating pump, at the front of the engine, i'd say some knowledge. From what I've seen, what could be a two sided impeller are only used in marine applications. They will function on an engine with standard or reverse rotation. The singled sided ones are typically used in the auto applications. If the pump is on a standard rotation engine with fresh water cooling, it will probably work fine.

The water pump pulley should rotate freely, the only resistance will come from the seal's friction with the shaft."
