61 merc 22hp will only run in start

Runs & idles in start position for 20 min just fine and when put to run dies after about 15 secs any suggests welcomed

Likely running on one cylinder.------Does spark jump a gap of 1/4" on both leads ?

Sounds like a ignition switch to me disconnect the kill wires from the stator should be two small wires coming out the points plate and see if it stays running

You should have two wires coming from the points isolate the two wires and the engine should run and to kill the engine short the two wires together goin to the points. Never apply power to the kill wires or you will be needing new coils it just takes a split second. Never mess with the ignition switch with the battery connected.

Try a cylinder drop test to pinpoint bad cylinder. Run a compression test also

The switch is already disconnected

Has no battery and concern it has something to do with the advance sys also i was able to run by pushing the throttle ahead with finger several times and it accelerated all the up to just a guess by about 3000rpm with the lever in the start position and then let go of it and it idled just fine
