61 johnson 10 hp LU interchange

so i guess the gears are wore out in my lower unit. looks to be cheaper and easier to buy used LU than to rebuild mine. anybody know what years interchange.

Did you take it apart for inspection ?------Is your driveshaft in good condition ?----Is your driveshaft splined for the pinion gear ?-----10 HP from 59 to 63 will interchange as a complete unit.----9.5 HP from 1964 to 1973 will interchange by changing out the driveshaft and shift rod.----------Note these lower units are the weak point on these motors.----Might be hard to find one in good condition.----Inspect or get some kind of guarantee that a replacement does not give you the same issue.
